A bookmark that sends the X post you're looking at straight to the downloader, already pasted. It works in any modern browser, needs no extension, and asks for no permissions.
A bookmarklet is a bookmark whose address is a tiny piece of JavaScript instead of a web page. When you tap it, the browser runs that code on the page you're viewing. Ours does one thing: it reads the address of the current page, checks that it's on x.com or twitter.com, and opens TwitterDownloaderX in a new tab with that address in the link box. The downloader then looks up the post right away, so you go from the post to the quality buttons in one tap instead of copying and pasting.
It is the same thing as copying the link and pasting it on our homepage, just faster. It doesn't read anything else on the page, doesn't see your X account, and doesn't run in the background. If you open it on a page that isn't an X post, it shows a short message and does nothing.
On a computer, drag the button above onto your bookmarks bar. On a phone or tablet you can't drag, so copy the code below and follow the iPhone or Android steps.
If dragging doesn't work (some managed work computers block it), create a new bookmark by hand: right-click the bookmarks bar, choose Add page or Add bookmark, give it a name, and paste the copied code into the URL field.
Safari on iOS can't drag links into bookmarks, so the trick is to bookmark any page and then swap its address for the code:
Bookmarklets only run inside a browser page. They don't work inside the X app. In the app, tap Share → Copy link and paste it on our homepage, or tap Share → Open in Safari first. Once your MP4 is downloaded, our Files vs Photos guide explains where it went and how to move it into Photos.
Chrome for Android doesn't run bookmarklets from the bookmarks menu. Save the bookmark the same way as on iPhone (bookmark any page, edit it, paste the code as the URL), then start typing its name in the address bar while you're on an X post and tap it in the suggestions. If that's too fiddly, sharing the post link to your browser and pasting it on the homepage is just as quick. The Android download guide covers that flow.
You should never add a bookmarklet you can't read, so here is ours in plain words. The full code is in the box above, nothing is loaded from elsewhere.
location.href, the address of the tab you're on.https://twitterdownloaderx.com/?url= followed by the encoded address and opens it in a new tab. If your browser blocks new tabs, it opens in the same tab instead. It doesn't read cookies, page content, or your X session, and it sends nothing anywhere except the post address you'd otherwise paste yourself. Like everything on this site, it only works for public posts. It can't open protected accounts, deleted posts, or media that X only shows to logged-in users. Please use it for your own content or content you have permission to keep. See responsible use.
If you want a real browser extension or an app rather than a bookmark, other downloaders offer them. Our comparison pages say which ones do, as of the date each was checked.
javascript:. Some browsers strip that prefix when you paste. Type it back in front.
