Error messages and how to fix them
Each page below matches one real message from the downloader, word for word, so you can search for exactly what you saw on screen and get the cause and the fix.

Errors come from three places. The link check happens before anything is fetched (invalid or unsupported links). The extraction step asks X for the post and can report that it is missing, protected, has no media or that X did not answer. The file step happens after you press a button: MP3 conversion in your browser, or the MP4 proxy refusing a file over 600 MB.
Most of these are not bugs. A protected account or a deleted post looks the same to us as it does to any logged-out visitor on X, and we deliberately don't get around that. When an error is on our side (for example the source is temporarily unavailable), the page says so and tells you how long to wait.
Each page gives the internal code, the HTTP status and whether retrying helps, so you can tell a dead end from a hiccup in a few seconds. If nothing appears at all after pressing Extract, or the file downloads but won't show up, start with the not-working checklist and the device pages, which cover where each browser actually puts the file.
- “Paste a public x.com or twitter.com post URL”This error means the text you pasted isn't a link to a single X post. Which links work, which don't (profiles, searches, lists, Spaces), and how to copy the right one.
- “Post not found. Make sure it is public and still up.”The link was valid but X returned nothing for the post: deleted posts, suspended accounts, age-gated posts, wrong IDs and ended broadcasts. How to check which one it is.
- “No downloadable media in this post.”The post exists but has no video, GIF or photo attached: text posts, link cards to YouTube, polls, quoted media in protected posts, broadcasts without a stream. What to do in each case.
- “This account is protected. Private media cannot be extracted.”What the protected-account error means, why no honest web downloader can get around it, and the legitimate options: asking the owner, or using your own X data archive.
- “X Spaces are audio-only and not supported yet.”Spaces links are recognized but not supported: they're audio rooms, not video posts. What hosts can do to keep a recording, and what the tool can save instead (live video broadcasts).
- “The source is temporarily unavailable. Try again in a moment.”The one error that is usually temporary: X timed out, refused a session, or changed its data. What happens behind the scenes and when to retry.
- “This clip has no audio track.”Why the MP3 button reports no audio: X GIFs are silent MP4s, some uploads have no sound track at all, and muted playback is not the same thing. How to tell which it is.
- “This clip is too long to extract audio in the browser.”MP3 conversion runs in your browser and stops at about 100 MB of video, or 15 minutes for live replays. Why the limits exist and how to get audio from longer clips.
- “Your browser can’t extract audio.”The MP3 button needs the WebCodecs AudioDecoder API. Which browsers have it, how to check yours, and how to get the audio anyway.
- “File is larger than 600 MB”Our download proxy refuses single files over 600 MB. Which X videos hit it (long 1080p uploads), how to estimate the size, and how to save them anyway.
- “This live is in progress. Watch now; MP4 download appears after it ends.”Why there are no download buttons on a running X live, when the replay becomes downloadable, and what happens if the host doesn't keep a replay.
