TwitterDownloaderX

Looking for an ssstwitter alternative? An honest comparison

ssstwitter is a long-running X video downloader with 18 language versions and an app link. Here is where it is stronger than TwitterDownloaderX, where we differ, and who should use which.

Disclosure: TwitterDownloaderX is our own site, written and run by Karim. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any service compared here, or by X Corp. Product names are used only to identify the services. Every comparison is based on what we could see on the public pages on the visit date shown, and services change often.

If you have ever searched for a way to save a video from X, you have almost certainly landed on ssstwitter. It is one of the oldest names in the category (its footer runs from 2018 to 2026), it belongs to the same "sss" family of downloaders as sites for TikTok, Instagram and Facebook, and it is one of the few that is properly available in many languages. This page explains how it compares with TwitterDownloaderX, the downloader we run, using only what we could check on October 14, 2026.

The short version: ssstwitter is the better pick if you want the interface in your own language, or if you already use its sister sites and like the familiar layout. TwitterDownloaderX is aimed at people who mostly need English, want a choice of MP4 qualities, save live broadcast replays, or want audio as MP3 without the file being converted on someone else's server.

The angle that matters here: languages and reach

ssstwitter's biggest strength is not a feature you see on the button. It is reach. When we loaded the homepage, it declared 18 language versions in its hreflang tags and language menu: English, Indonesian, German, Spanish, French, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, Turkish, Italian, Ukrainian, Arabic, Vietnamese, Thai, Japanese, Korean, Dutch, Polish and Chinese. Each language has its own URL (for example /ar and /fr).

That matters if you are not comfortable in English. Following instructions in your own language, especially on a phone where saving files can be confusing, is a real advantage, and it is one we do not match today.

TwitterDownloaderX is published in English only for search engines. We have Arabic and French versions in progress, but they are deliberately marked noindex until each one has been written properly rather than run through a translator. That is a choice with a cost: if you need Thai, Korean or Polish, ssstwitter serves you better right now.

Extensions, apps and shortcuts

People often ask whether ssstwitter has a browser extension. On the pages we loaded on the visit date, we did not find a link to a browser extension; the homepage text actually describes downloading "without browser extension or Twitter account". What we did find:

  • An "Install App" link in the header pointing to an Android app on Google Play. The app's package name is a general "universal video downloader", so check the listing yourself before installing; we did not install or test it.
  • A "Quick Access" prompt that explains how to add ssstwitter to your phone's home screen (Share, then "Add to Home Screen"), so it opens like an app.
  • A URL trick the site has long been known for: putting "sss" in front of a twitter.com link to jump straight to the downloader.

TwitterDownloaderX has no extension and no app. Our equivalent shortcut is a bookmarklet: a bookmark you tap while you are on a post, which opens our downloader with that post's link already filled in. It works in desktop browsers and in mobile browsers that allow bookmarklets, but it is a smaller convenience than a native app, and we are not going to pretend otherwise.

Ads, scripts and page weight

We looked at the raw HTML of both homepages on October 14, 2026. This does not show ads that are injected later by JavaScript, so treat it as a floor, not a full count.

What we measuredssstwitter.comTwitterDownloaderX
HTML sizeabout 95 KBabout 43 KB
External script files in the HTML42
Ad network code foundGoogle AdSense, with 2 ad slots in the pageGoogle AdSense script on English pages, no fixed slots around the tool

Neither site requires an account. ssstwitter's privacy policy says it uses Google Analytics cookies and that some ads are delivered by third parties who "may collect information about you and your online activities". Ours says something similar about AdSense and Analytics, and adds that the links you paste are not stored after your request is served. Your recent-downloads list lives in your browser's local storage and never reaches us.

One small difference in the structured data: ssstwitter's homepage includes an AggregateRating in its schema markup. We chose not to add star ratings to our own pages, because a site rating itself is not the same as independent reviews.

How each one handles a download

Both sites follow the same basic flow: copy the post link on X, paste it, press the button. The details differ.

On ssstwitter, the FAQ explains that there is a short waiting period between presses of the download button, "to reduce server loading". After the wait you see download links for the available qualities.

On TwitterDownloaderX, the post is resolved on our server and you see a preview with one button per quality that X actually stores for that video. We label each one by the shorter side of the frame, so a vertical 720×1280 clip shows up as 720p. That avoids the common confusion where a phone video seems to be "missing" its HD option. If the post is a live broadcast that has finished, the same box downloads the replay as MP4. If you want only the sound, the MP3 is built in your own browser from the MP4, which means the audio file is never created on our servers. The trade-off is that very long files (roughly over 100 MB, or replays over about 15 minutes) are too heavy to convert in a browser, and we say so on the page.

Neither site can download from private or protected accounts. ssstwitter's FAQ says so directly, and so does our guide to why some X videos can't be downloaded. Neither of us supports X Spaces, which are audio-only.

Where ssstwitter is better

  • Languages. Eighteen language versions against our one indexed language is the clearest difference on this page.
  • App and home-screen shortcut. The Play Store link and the built-in "Add to Home Screen" prompt suit people who save clips every day on a phone.
  • Familiarity. If you already use ssstik or other sites in the same family, the layout is the same.
  • The "sss" shortcut. Editing the URL in place is quicker than opening another tab.

Where TwitterDownloaderX is different

  • Quality labels you can trust. You see every rendition X stores, labelled the way you would expect, including on vertical video.
  • Live broadcast replays in the same box as normal posts.
  • MP3 converted locally in your browser rather than on a server.
  • Photos at original size, not the compressed preview.
  • A recent-downloads list that stays on your device.
  • Lighter page: about half the HTML and two script files in our test.
  • Long-form [guides](/guides) on formats, compression and fair reuse, written by the person who runs the site.

Who should choose which

Choose ssstwitter if you prefer instructions in Arabic, Russian, Indonesian, Thai or another of its languages; if you want an Android app or an icon on your home screen; or if you already know the "sss" family of sites.

Choose TwitterDownloaderX if you are comfortable in English and care about picking an exact quality, need the replay of a finished live broadcast, want MP3 audio without uploading anything, or like keeping a short history of what you saved.

Plenty of people keep both bookmarked. When one site has trouble with a particular post, the other is a quick second try, and that is a perfectly sensible way to use free tools.

Frequently asked questions

Is TwitterDownloaderX part of ssstwitter?

No. TwitterDownloaderX is an independent site run by Karim in Morocco. We have no connection with ssstwitter or the other "sss" sites, and this page is our own comparison.

Does ssstwitter have a browser extension?

On October 14, 2026 we did not find a browser extension link on ssstwitter's homepage or MP3 page. We did find a link to an Android app on Google Play and a prompt for adding the site to your home screen. Check the site itself, as this can change.

Which one supports more languages?

ssstwitter, by a wide margin: it offered 18 language versions on the visit date. TwitterDownloaderX is indexed in English only, with Arabic and French versions in progress.

Can either site download private X videos?

No. Both only work with public posts. Private and protected accounts are blocked by X, and neither site tries to get around that.

Do I need an account on either site?

No. Neither ssstwitter nor TwitterDownloaderX asks you to sign up or log in to download.

Which one should I use for MP3?

Both offer MP3. The difference is where the conversion happens: on TwitterDownloaderX it happens in your browser, so nothing is converted on our server, but very long clips may be too large. Only save audio you own or have permission to use; our fair use guide explains why.
