Download X videos without an app

You don't need to install anything to save a public X video. A browser is enough on every phone and computer, and there are three ways to make it faster.

Step by step

  1. Paste method. Copy the post link, paste it here, Extract, pick a quality. Works everywhere.
  2. URL trick. On a post page, replace x.com in the address bar with twitterdownloaderx.com and press Enter: the tool opens with the post loaded.
  3. Bookmarklet. Drag our bookmarklet to your bookmarks bar; click it on any X post page.
  4. iPhone Shortcut. Build a two-action Shortcut that sends the shared link here; see iPhone Shortcut.

How the URL trick works

Our site answers on the same path X uses for posts: /username/status/1234567890. Replacing the domain keeps the path, so https://x.com/nasa/status/1234567890 becomes https://twitterdownloaderx.com/nasa/status/1234567890, which opens the downloader and extracts that post right away. That page is never indexed; it exists only as a shortcut.

What apps and extensions add (and cost)

  • Apps: a share-sheet button. In exchange they often show ads, ask for storage or notification permissions, and on Android are sometimes sideloaded APKs from unknown sources.
  • Extensions: a download button on X itself. They need permission to read every page you visit on x.com, sometimes on every site.
  • X Premium: gives a download option only for videos whose creators allow it, inside the X app.
  • Browser method: no permissions, nothing installed, nothing stored on our servers.

What “no app” means on each device

  • iPhone and iPad: Safari's built-in download manager does all the work. The file lands in the Files app, and the Share sheet moves it to Photos.
  • Android: Chrome, Samsung Internet or Firefox save to the Download folder, which the gallery reads automatically.
  • Windows, Mac and Linux: any current browser saves to the Downloads folder; no extension or desktop program is involved.
  • Smart TVs and consoles: their browsers usually can't save files at all. Download on a phone or computer and cast or copy the file instead.
  • A home-screen bookmark gives you the one-tap feel of an app: in Safari use Share › Add to Home Screen, in Chrome for Android use ⋮ › Add to Home screen.

Nothing to update, nothing to uninstall

Because the work happens on a web page, improvements arrive without updates on your side. When X changes something and we fix the extractor, the next visit simply works. And when you no longer need it, there's nothing to remove beyond closing the tab: the only thing stored on your device is the recent-downloads list, which you can clear with one button.

Questions people ask

Is downloading without an app safe?

It's the method with the fewest permissions: a normal file download from your browser.

Does the URL trick work on phones?

Yes, if you edit the address in the browser. In the X app, use Share › Copy link instead.

Do I need an X account?

No, public posts work logged out.
