Disclosure: TwitterDownloaderX is our own site, written and run by Karim. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any service compared here, or by X Corp. Product names are used only to identify the services. Every comparison is based on what we could see on the public pages on the visit date shown, and services change often.
XDownloader.dev is the competitor on this list that is closest to us in spirit. Its homepage explains how X video works, it has a section titled "What XDownloader cannot do", it tells people to "download responsibly", and it has a blog. When we visited on October 14, 2026, it also carried no advertising at all, which is something we cannot say about our own site.
This comparison focuses on what makes both sites different from the usual one-box downloader: how much they explain, how they handle privacy, and what you can actually save.
Two ways of explaining a downloader
The XDownloader.dev homepage is long, about 2,050 words of visible text when we loaded it, roughly twice the length of ours. It covers the three steps, why there is no watermark, how X stores several renditions of each video, why GIFs come out as MP4, how photo posts are handled, where files land on each kind of device, and a clear list of limits: no protected accounts, no DMs, no age-restricted or deleted posts, and no X Spaces. It even warns that anything promising a "4K upscale" of a Twitter video "is selling you an interpolation, not real resolution". We agree.
TwitterDownloaderX puts less on the homepage (about 1,070 words) and more into separate pages. Each common problem has its own page: downloader not working, no sound, won't play, private videos. Each device has a walkthrough for iPhone, Android and PC. And there are twelve long guides on topics such as backing up your own videos before deleting your account, archiving posts as evidence and asking a creator for permission.
The blogs
XDownloader.dev's blog listed ten posts on our visit, written by "The XDownloader Team". About half are about downloading. The rest cover wider X and video topics: using Grok, deleting an account, monetising an X account, X vs Threads, and best video editor apps for iOS and Android.
Our guides stay closer to the job of saving and reusing X media responsibly, and each one carries a named author (Karim, who runs the site) and the date it was last reviewed. Whether a broad blog or a narrow one is more useful depends on what you came for.

| Sign-up | Not required | Not required |
On languages: XDownloader.dev publishes its homepage in English, Spanish, Portuguese, Korean, Chinese, Japanese, French, Italian, Turkish, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Dutch and Filipino. In our earlier look at its sitemap, only the homepage was translated, and the guides and blog were English. That is still twelve more languages than we index.
Privacy and ads: where they are clearly ahead
This is the most important difference, so here it is plainly.
| XDownloader.dev | TwitterDownloaderX | |
|---|---|---|
| Advertising | None. The privacy policy says no ad scripts load | Google AdSense on English pages |
| Analytics | None found in the HTML | Google Analytics 4 |
| Script files in the HTML | 1 | 2 |
| HTML size | about 79 KB | about 43 KB |
| Pasted links stored | No, per its policy | No, per our policy |
XDownloader.dev's privacy policy is detailed (close to 1,900 words). It says the site "does not currently display advertising, and no advertising or ad-network scripts are loaded", that it uses no analytics or advertising cookies, and that if this ever changes it will name the ad provider and ask for consent where required. It also lists its subprocessors and how long data is kept.
TwitterDownloaderX is funded by Google AdSense, and we use Google Analytics 4 to see which pages help people. Our privacy policy explains what those services can see, and we do not keep pasted links or media after your request is served. But if you want a downloader that loads no third-party tracking at all, XDownloader.dev is the better choice today, and we would rather tell you that than bury it.
How the download itself differs
Both sites resolve the post on a server, because browsers cannot fetch X's media directly, and both hand you X's original MP4 with no watermark and no re-encoding. The practical differences:
- MP3. We extract audio from the MP4 inside your browser. XDownloader.dev does not offer audio.
- Live replays. Paste a finished X broadcast link into our box and you get an MP4 replay.
- Quality labels. Both list several qualities. We label by the shorter side of the frame, so a vertical 720×1280 video says 720p.
- File sizes. Where X reports it, each quality button shows the file size, which helps when you are on mobile data or need to stay under a messaging app's upload limit. Our guide to trimming and compressing clips for WhatsApp and Telegram picks up from there.
- History. We keep your last 12 posts in your browser's local storage, which you can clear at any time.
What both sites get right
It is worth saying where the two sites agree, because these are the things to look for in any downloader. Neither asks for an account, an email address or a card. Neither adds a watermark or an intro card to your video. Both pass on X's own MP4 rather than re-encoding it, so a clip you save looks exactly like the one in the app, which matters if you plan to edit it later. Both refuse protected accounts and say so plainly instead of hinting that a "premium" option might get around it. And both explain that the best quality available is set by the person who uploaded the post, not by the downloader. If a site you are trying claims otherwise on any of these points, be careful.

Who should choose which
