TwitterDownloaderX vs X Downloader: a single tool against a whole product suite
X Downloader (x-downloader.com) offers browser add-ons, a bulk downloader, an embeddable widget, a WordPress plugin and screenshots. Here is how that suite compares with TwitterDownloaderX, as of October 2026.

Disclosure: TwitterDownloaderX is our own site, written and run by Karim. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any service compared here, or by X Corp. Product names are used only to identify the services. Every comparison is based on what we could see on the public pages on the visit date shown, and services change often.
Most X video downloaders are a single page. X Downloader, at x-downloader.com, is closer to a small product company. Besides the main downloader, the site we visited on October 14, 2026 linked to browser add-ons, a bulk downloader, an MP3 converter, a broadcast downloader, a tweet screenshot tool, a developer page, a WordPress plugin and a blog on its own subdomain. It also links out to a Trustpilot page, a Product Hunt listing, a GitHub organisation and a YouTube channel.
TwitterDownloaderX, which we run, is one website with one downloader. So the honest question for this comparison is not "which downloader is better" but "do you need a suite, or a single tool?"
What is in the X Downloader suite
Here is everything the English homepage and its linked pages offered on our visit date, described in their own terms:
- Main downloader: paste a link and download MP4, with a "Highest Quality" option. The page says it delivers "full HD and 4K".
- MP3 conversion: a dedicated page for extracting the soundtrack.
- Bulk Video Downloader: "Download a list of Twitter videos at once."
- Broadcast downloader for X live broadcasts.
- Screenshot tool: "Capture screenshots of X posts with a single click."
- Browser add-ons for Chrome, Edge and Firefox that add a download button to videos on X itself. The Chrome version is listed in the Chrome Web Store.
- WordPress plugin, listed on wordpress.org.
- Developer page offering an iframe widget: site owners swap
x.comforiframe.x-downloader.comin a post URL and embed two download buttons under a post. Larger sites are invited to email for a "custom solution". - Android app, mentioned in the FAQ.
- Japanese version of the homepage, alongside English.
That is a genuinely broad offering, and some of it has no equivalent on our side at all.
What TwitterDownloaderX offers instead
- One downloader for video, GIF, photo, MP3 and live broadcast replays.
- A labelled quality list: every rendition X stores for that post, rather than a single "highest" button. Labels use the shorter side of the frame, so vertical phone videos are labelled the way you'd expect.
- MP3 in your browser: the audio is extracted on your own device from the MP4, so no audio file is produced on our server.
- Recent downloads: your last 12 posts, kept only in your browser.
- A [bookmarklet](/bookmarklet): a bookmark that sends the post you are viewing to our downloader. It is our lightweight answer to an extension, and much more limited.
- Guides: twelve long guides, plus device and troubleshooting pages.
We have no extension, no bulk mode, no screenshot tool, no widget for other websites and no app.
Feature table
| Feature | X Downloader | TwitterDownloaderX |
|---|---|---|
| MP4 download | Yes, "Highest Quality" button | Yes, every quality X stores, labelled |
| Highest quality claimed | "Full HD and 4K" | Whatever X stores, typically up to 1080p |
| MP3 | Yes, separate tool | Yes, converted in your browser |
| Photos | Screenshot tool for whole posts | Original-size photo files |
| Live broadcasts | Dedicated broadcast downloader | Same box, replay once published |
| Bulk download | Yes | No |
| Browser extension | Chrome, Edge, Firefox | No (bookmarklet) |
| WordPress plugin | Yes | No |
| Embeddable widget for websites | Yes (iframe) | No |
| Android app | Mentioned in FAQ | No |
| Languages | English, Japanese | English |
| Sign-up | Not required | Not required |
| External trust profiles linked | Trustpilot, Product Hunt, GitHub, YouTube | None yet |
A note on 4K: the quality you can save is capped by what X itself stores for a post. We list the renditions X returns, and in day-to-day use those top out at 1080p. If you see a 4K option anywhere, it is worth checking the file's actual resolution after downloading.
The developer "API": what it actually is
The word "API" can mean different things. X Downloader's developer page describes an embeddable iframe, not a REST API that returns data. A website owner who already embeds a post can add a small widget (at least 250 × 48 px) that shows download buttons for that post. For larger sites, the page offers dedicated arrangements by email.
That is useful if you run a blog or news site and want readers to download clips you are allowed to share. It is not the same as a programmatic API for archiving posts in bulk. If that is what you need, read our comparison with the TwitterAPI.io tool, which is built around a paid data API.
TwitterDownloaderX offers neither an embed nor an API.
Private videos and the add-on
One answer in X Downloader's FAQ is worth pointing out. Asked about private accounts, it says this isn't possible through the website, but "you can use our X Downloader Chrome extension to do so", because the extension downloads from your browser's storage.
We take a different position. Our downloader only works with public posts, and our guide to private videos explains why we do not try to get around protected accounts: the account holder chose to limit who sees their posts. If you can view a video only because someone approved you as a follower, please ask them before saving it.
Ads, scripts and privacy
From the HTML on October 14, 2026:
| X Downloader | TwitterDownloaderX | |
|---|---|---|
| HTML size | about 57 KB | about 43 KB |
| Script files in the HTML | 3 | 2 |
| Ad code found | Google AdSense, plus a reference to Monetag | Google AdSense |
| Analytics | Google Analytics (gtag) | Google Analytics 4 |
Monetag is an ad network that offers formats such as push notifications and pop-unders. We only found a reference in the HTML, so we cannot say which formats run. The homepage itself says it avoids "bombarding you with pop-ups" and is "ad-supported".
X Downloader's privacy policy reads as though it was written for a mobile app: it mentions collecting name, email and profile picture, Google Play Services and Firebase analytics, and crash log data. That may simply cover the Android app; the website itself did not ask us for anything. Our privacy policy covers only the website: no accounts, pasted links not kept after the request, recent downloads stored in your browser.
Where X Downloader is better
- Browser add-ons for three browsers, putting a button right on X's player.
- Bulk downloads for people saving many clips.
- Tools for site owners: a WordPress plugin and an embeddable widget.
- A screenshot tool for archiving how a post looked.
- Visible outside presence: Trustpilot, Product Hunt, GitHub and YouTube profiles let you see what others say.
- Japanese as well as English.
Where TwitterDownloaderX is better
- A full quality list instead of a single "highest" button.
- Original-size photos as separate files.
- MP3 made on your device.
- Public posts only, by design.
- Fewer ad networks in the page, and a slightly lighter page.
- Depth of explanation: guides on formats, compression and fair reuse.
Who should choose which
Choose X Downloader if you want a one-click button inside X in Chrome, Edge or Firefox, need to download many videos at once, run a WordPress site, or want post screenshots.
Choose TwitterDownloaderX if you save individual posts, want to pick a specific quality or file size, want photos and audio as clean files, or prefer a downloader that sticks to public content.
Frequently asked questions
Is X Downloader the same as TwitterDownloaderX?
No. The names are similar because both describe downloading from X, but they are separate, unrelated sites. We run TwitterDownloaderX and have no connection with x-downloader.com.
Does X Downloader have an API?
Its developer page offers an embeddable iframe widget for websites and custom arrangements for large sites by email. As of October 14, 2026 it did not describe a public REST API with documented endpoints. TwitterDownloaderX has no API.
Which one has a browser extension?
X Downloader has add-ons for Chrome, Edge and Firefox. TwitterDownloaderX has a bookmarklet instead, which needs one extra tap and opens our site in a new tab.
Can I download 4K Twitter videos?
Only if X stores a 4K rendition of that post. X Downloader advertises 4K. TwitterDownloaderX lists exactly what X returns, which in our experience usually tops out at 1080p.
Can I bulk download X videos with TwitterDownloaderX?
No, one post at a time. If you need bulk, X Downloader's bulk tool or a paid API is a better fit. Only bulk-save content you have the right to keep.
