Save X videos to your camera roll or gallery
“Save to camera roll” is the most common thing people want after downloading an X video, and the one place iPhone and Android differ the most. Here is the shortest path on each.

In short
- iPhone
- Download → Files → Share → Save Video → Photos
- Android
- Download → appears in the gallery's Download album automatically
- Apps needed
- None on either platform
- Quality kept
- Yes: Photos and galleries store the MP4 as-is
Step by step
- Download the MP4. Paste the X link here, Extract, and tap the quality you want.
- iPhone: open the download. In Safari tap the download arrow (in Chrome, tap Open in…) and open the file.
- iPhone: Save Video. Tap Share › Save Video. It appears at the end of Recents in Photos.
- Android: open your gallery. Google Photos: Library › Download. Samsung Gallery: Albums › Download.
- Tidy up. On iPhone, delete the copy in Files › Downloads once it's in Photos to save space.
Why iPhone needs the extra step
iOS keeps browser downloads and the photo library apart on purpose: websites can write to Files, but only you can move something into Photos. That is why a download “disappears”: it's waiting in Files › Downloads (Safari) or Files › On My iPhone › Chrome (Chrome).
The Save Video action copies the clip; it doesn't move it. If iCloud Photos is on, the video then syncs to your other Apple devices like any recording.
Why Android usually just works
Android browsers save into the shared Download folder, and gallery apps scan it for media. The clip appears in a Download album within seconds, already in your camera-roll-style timeline in some galleries.
If it doesn't, open the file once from your browser's downloads list; that forces the media scanner to index it.
When the video doesn't show up
- iPhone, Save Video missing: you opened the file from a share sheet that isn't Files; open it in Files first.
- iPhone, Photos says it can't save: the download was interrupted; download it again and wait for the arrow to finish.
- Android, no Download album: some galleries hide it; check “Show all albums” or use Google Photos › Library.
- Both: the file has a .mp4 name but zero size — retry with a lower quality.
Albums, backups and finding the clip later
Once a clip is in Photos or Google Photos, it is sorted by the date you saved it, not the date it was posted. If you save several clips for one purpose (a trip, a project, a family event), put them in an album straight away: on iPhone, tap Share › Add to Album; in Google Photos, tap ⋮ › Add to album.
Cloud photo backup treats the saved MP4 like any video you recorded. With iCloud Photos or Google Photos backup turned on, the clip will sync to your other devices and count toward your storage. Long 1080p replays can be large; pick 720p if you're tight on space.
