“This live is in progress. Watch now; MP4 download appears after it ends.”

This isn't a failure: the broadcast is still running. We show a player so you can watch, but no quality buttons, because a live stream has no end yet to save.

Does retrying help?
Yes, after the broadcast ends.

How to fix it

  1. Watch now, download later. Keep the page open or come back after the broadcast ends.
  2. Paste the link again. After it ends, extract again to load the replay and its qualities.
  3. Plan for size. Long replays at 1080p are big; 720p is faster to save.

What this message means

X delivers broadcasts as HLS (a playlist of short segments). While the broadcast is live, the playlist keeps growing, so we mark the item as live and hide downloads. When the host ends it and X keeps a replay, the same link returns a finished playlist and the quality buttons appear.

Downloading the replay stitches every segment into one MP4 on our server without re-encoding, so it can take a while for long broadcasts.

Why it happens

  • The broadcast hasn't ended. Check the host's post: it says LIVE while running.
  • X is still finalizing the replay. Right after the end, the replay can take a short time to appear.
  • No replay was kept. If the host removed the replay, the link will later return not found or no media.

What happens between “live” and “replay”

While a broadcast is running, X serves it as a moving window of short HLS segments. There is no finished file to save, so the result card shows a Watch live button and hides the download buttons. When the host ends the broadcast, X processes it into a replay; this can take a few minutes for long streams. Extract the link again after that and the qualities appear.

Not every broadcast becomes a replay. Hosts can turn replays off or delete them afterwards, in which case the link will later return “Post not found”. If you need to keep a broadcast you are hosting yourself, make sure replays are enabled before going live.

The same link works before and after: you don't need a new URL for the replay. Bookmark the post or keep the result in our recent-downloads list on this device and come back to it.

If you were watching live and want to be sure you don't miss the replay, keep the post open in X: when the broadcast ends, the post updates to show the replay, which is your signal to extract it again here.

Questions people ask

Can I record an X live while it runs?

Not with this tool; downloads appear for the replay only.

How long after the end can I download?

Usually as soon as X publishes the replay, and for as long as the host keeps it.

Is audio included in replays?

Yes, the stitched MP4 contains the broadcast's audio and video.
