Error · no_media
“No downloadable media in this post.”
This one is easy to misread: the post was found, it just doesn't contain media that belongs to X. The video you see may be a preview card from another site, or attached to a different post in the thread.

Error details
- Message on screen
- “No downloadable media in this post.”
- Internal code
- no_media
- Where it appears
- Extraction: the post exists but has no video, GIF or photo we can serve
- HTTP status
- 400 from /api/extract
- Does retrying help?
- No, unless media was still processing.
How to fix it
- Tap the video itself. On X, tap the video so it opens full screen, then copy the link from there; the address ends in /video/1 for a video in that post.
- Check the thread. Open the replies and copy the link of the post that actually holds the clip.
- Open link cards at the source. If the card says youtube.com or another domain, the video must be saved from that site, with permission.
- Wait for fresh uploads. For a post a few seconds old, retry after a minute.
What this message means
After reading the post we collect every media item: videos and GIFs (with all their MP4 renditions), photos (at original size) and live broadcasts. When that list ends up empty and the text holds no broadcast link, you get this message.
For broadcasts the same code means X has the broadcast but no playable stream for it, typically a scheduled broadcast that never started.
Why it happens
- It's a link card. A YouTube, TikTok or news link shows a big preview with a play button. The video lives on that site, not on X.
- The video is in another post of the thread. Threads are separate posts. The clip may be in the reply below or the post above.
- Text-only or poll post. Polls and plain text have no media.
- Media hidden behind a sensitive-content gate. When X only shows media after login, the public data can arrive without it.
- Upload still processing. Right after posting, X can take a moment before the video variants are published.
Posts that look like they have a video but don't
A link preview card with a play icon is the classic case: the video lives on YouTube, Twitch or a news site, and X only stores the thumbnail. Polls, text-only posts and posts whose only image is a link card fall in the same group. Open the card's destination if you need the clip and check that site's own sharing options.
Another case is a post that only quotes a video. The quoted post carries the media, so extract the quoted post's own link (tap into it, then Share › Copy link).
Questions people ask
The post clearly has a video. Why no media?
It's often an embedded card from another site, or the clip is in a quoted post that is protected.
Do quote-tweet videos work?
Yes when the quoted post is public; the result card marks them “Quote”.
Can I download a video from a link card?
Not here. It belongs to the other site; check its own terms.
