Download X videos on Android with Firefox
Firefox for Android downloads MP4s like any other browser, with a quick snackbar at the bottom when it is done. Where it differs is the in-browser MP3 conversion, which depends on newer web features.

Download an X video with Firefox on Android phone
- Copy the link. In the X app tap Share › Copy link.
- Paste it in Firefox. Open TwitterDownloaderX in Firefox, paste the link and tap Extract.
- Tap a quality. Firefox starts the download and shows a progress bar at the bottom.
- Tap Open. When the snackbar says the download is complete, tap Open to play the MP4.
- Find it later. Menu (⋮) › Downloads lists everything Firefox saved; the file also sits in the Download folder.
Where the file ends up on Android phone
Firefox writes to the shared Download folder, the same one Chrome and file managers use, so the clip shows up in your gallery's Download album.
Firefox keeps a downloads list in its menu. Removing an entry from that list doesn't delete the file unless you choose Delete.
Firefox on Android phone: gotchas we ran into
- MP3 conversion support. The MP3 button converts audio inside your browser using WebCodecs. If it shows “Your browser can't extract audio”, your Firefox build lacks that API; download the MP4 and convert it elsewhere, or use Chrome for the MP3.
- Private tabs. Files from private tabs are still saved to Download; only the browsing history is private.
- Strict tracking protection. Enhanced Tracking Protection doesn't block our file, but strict mode can block third-party scripts on other sites. TwitterDownloaderX needs none to download.
- Add-ons. Some download-manager add-ons intercept files. If a download never starts, disable them for this site.
After the download
Firefox shows the full file name in its downloads list, including the quality suffix, so it is easy to delete the version you don't need.
If you share clips often, set Firefox to open MP4s with your preferred video app from the download snackbar.

Private tabs, add-ons and our recent-downloads list
Firefox for Android stores downloads in the shared Download folder whether you use a normal or a private tab, so a clip saved in private browsing still appears in your gallery. What disappears is our recent-downloads list: it is kept in the page's local storage, which Firefox clears when you close private tabs.
You don't need any downloader add-on from the Firefox add-ons catalogue. Several of them inject scripts into every page you visit; the downloader page does the same job with no permissions at all.
If Firefox opens the video in a new tab and starts playing it instead of saving it, press and hold the quality button and choose Download link. That forces a save even when Firefox thinks it can display the file itself.
Enhanced Tracking Protection doesn't affect downloads here: the MP4 is streamed through our own domain, so it isn't treated as a third-party request.
Firefox on Android shows a small download bar at the bottom of the screen; tapping Open hands the file to your default video player, and long-pressing the item in Firefox's Downloads list lets you share or delete it without leaving the browser.
Questions people ask
Does TwitterDownloaderX work in Firefox for Android?
Yes for MP4, GIF and photos. MP3 conversion depends on your Firefox version supporting WebCodecs.
Where do Firefox downloads go on Android?
To Internal storage › Download. Firefox's menu › Downloads lists them.
Why does the MP3 button fail but the MP4 works?
MP4 is a plain download; MP3 is converted in the browser and needs WebCodecs audio decoding.
