Download X videos on Windows with Chrome
Chrome on Windows needs no extension to save an X video. The MP4 goes to your Downloads folder, and Chrome's download bubble at the top right shows when it is done.

Where the file ends up on Windows PC
Unless you changed it, Chrome uses C:\Users\<you>\Downloads. Change it in Settings › Downloads › Location, or turn on Ask where to save each file before downloading if you sort clips into project folders.
Windows Media Player (Windows 11) and Movies & TV both play the H.264/AAC MP4 X serves, without codec packs. If a file won't play, it was probably interrupted; see won't play.
Chrome on Windows PC: gotchas we ran into
- The bottom bar is gone. Recent Chrome versions replaced the bottom download bar with a bubble icon in the toolbar. If you don't see anything, look top right or press Ctrl+J.
- “Ask where to save” dialog behind windows. With that option on, the Save As dialog can open behind other windows; the download only starts once you confirm it.
- Extensions that hijack downloads. Download managers such as IDM can grab the link and then fail on our proxied download. Disable them for this site if the download never finishes.
- Multiple profiles. Each Chrome profile can have its own download folder. Check the profile you used.
After the download
For editing, the 1080p MP4 drops straight into Clipchamp, Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve. Nothing is re-encoded on our side, so it is the same file X stores.
Right-click › Properties › Details in Explorer shows the frame size and bitrate, a quick way to confirm you got the rendition you picked.

Pick where Chrome saves, and play or trim the clip on Windows
Chrome saves to your Downloads folder unless you change it. Open chrome://settings/downloads to set another folder, or switch on “Ask where to save each file before downloading” if you want to name clips as you go and file them straight into a project folder.
Once saved, the MP4 opens in the Windows Media Player or Films & TV app with no codec pack. For a quick trim, the Photos app and Clipchamp, which ships with Windows 11, both accept the file directly; for frame-accurate edits, any editor that reads H.264 works.
Chrome shows the finished download in the download bubble at the top right. Drag the item from that bubble straight onto your desktop, into an email, or into a chat window to share it without hunting for the folder.
On a laptop with limited disk space, keep an eye on long replays: a one-hour broadcast at 1080p can run to several gigabytes in X's own encode, which is also why such files hit our 600 MB proxy cap. Choosing 720p in Chrome keeps both the download time and the disk usage reasonable, and you can still come back for the larger file later from the same link.
Questions people ask
Do I need a Chrome extension to download X videos?
No. The website works in plain Chrome; extensions are optional and need access to every page you visit.
Where does Chrome save videos on Windows?
In your Downloads folder by default (C:\Users\you\Downloads). Ctrl+J shows the list.
Why won't Windows play the downloaded file?
A complete MP4 from X plays in Media Player. A file that stopped early can't; download it again.
