Download an X video with Firefox on Windows PC

  1. Copy the X link. Share › Copy link on the post, or copy the post's address.
  2. Extract. Paste it on TwitterDownloaderX in Firefox and press Enter.
  3. Click a quality. Firefox's downloads arrow fills up as the MP4 arrives.
  4. Open from the panel. Click the arrow › the file to open it, or the folder icon to show it.
  5. Library view. Ctrl+Shift+Y opens the Library window with every past download.

Where the file ends up on Windows PC

Firefox's location is in Settings › General › Files and Applications › Downloads. Pick Always ask you where to save files to choose a folder each time.

Under Applications in the same section, the MP4 content type can be set to Save File, Always ask or open in Firefox. Our server sends the file as an attachment, so it normally saves; if your setting opens it instead, Ctrl+S saves the playing video.

Firefox on Windows PC: gotchas we ran into

  • MP3 needs a recent Firefox. The MP3 button decodes audio with WebCodecs, which Firefox desktop added in version 130. Update Firefox if it says your browser can't extract audio.
  • Downloads panel auto-hide. Firefox can hide the downloads button when the list is empty; it reappears once a download starts.
  • Private windows. Downloads from private windows are saved to disk but removed from the downloads list when you close the window.
  • Download-manager add-ons. Add-ons that take over downloads can break our proxied download. Pause them for this site.

After the download

Firefox shows the complete file name, so the account, post ID and quality are visible in the panel before you open anything.

If you prefer the command line, you can also copy the direct media URL from the result card and pass it to curl or wget.

Firefox settings that change what happens on click

In about:preferences, under Files and Applications, Firefox decides per file type whether to save, open or ask. If MP4 is set to Open in Firefox, clicking a quality plays the video in a new tab; switch it to Save File and every click downloads straight to your folder. The “Always ask you where to save files” option gives you a Save As dialog each time.

about:downloads lists everything Firefox has saved, with the full path and a retry button for interrupted transfers. Ctrl+Shift+Y opens the same list in a window.

Enhanced Tracking Protection and strict cookie settings don't block the download: the file is streamed through our own domain, so Firefox treats it as a first-party request.

If you use container tabs or resist-fingerprinting settings, the page still works; the only thing those settings can affect is our recent-downloads list, which needs local storage.

When an MP4 is interrupted, Firefox keeps the partial file with a .part extension next to the target. Delete it and click the quality again rather than renaming it: a cut-off MP4 is missing the end of the file, and most players refuse to open it.

Firefox on Windows also offers a per-download choice in the downloads panel: right-click an entry to open its folder, copy the original download link, or remove it from history while keeping the file on disk.

Questions people ask

Do I need a Firefox extension?

No. The site downloads MP4s in plain Firefox.

Why does Firefox open the video instead of saving it?

Your Applications setting for MP4 is set to open. Change it to Save File, or press Ctrl+S.

Which Firefox version supports the MP3 button?

Firefox 130 or later on desktop, because it relies on WebCodecs audio decoding.
